The costs of veggies have soared as a direct result of the massive rains that have been falling in Northern India. The quantity of apples produced will now be able to accurately reflect the impact of the rain. The rains that fell in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir the week before had caused significant damage to apple orchards.
As a result of this, it is possible that the amount of apples produced in these states will drop to half their previous levels. This is concerning given that Washington and Oregon are the states with the biggest apple production. It is believed that a decrease in apple output in the upcoming season will occur, and if this occurs, apples may also become a luxury item for the average person.

Apples in quantities ranging from 21 to 29 lakh tonnes are produced each year in Kashmir. Apple farmers in Kashmir have predicted that their harvest for this year will be significantly lower than it was for the previous season as a result of the persistent rainfall. Growers say that the amount of apples that will be harvested in Himachal Pradesh this season is also projected to be cut in half as a result of the damage that was caused by the severe rains. The probability that apples may become more expensive as a result of this has grown.

After tomatoes, prices of other common vegetables including capsicum, okra, brinjal, and bottle gourd have seen significant increases. In the city of Delhi’s Azadpur mandi, the price of capsicum has jumped by more than three times over the course of the past week. In Azadpur Mandi, the wholesale price of capsicum was Rs 24 per kg on July 4th. As of the 13th of July, it was priced at 80 rupees a kilogramme. During this time span, the cost of brinjal has gone up by 48 percent, while the cost of okra has gone up by 36 percent. The price per kilogramme of commonly consumed veggies, which also includes bottle gourd, is currently Rs 70.
